Our First Project: The Ensuite

When we first moved into our home the first project we took on was the ensuite.

We hadn't realised when we'd viewed the house, but there was serious plumbing issues in the ensuite. The shower was very leaky and the previous owners had double siliconed around the base to account for all the water– not great!

To make matters worse, the shower pressure was so ridiculously low, it had to be 'enhanced' with an electric pump. The noise was insane!

The layout didn't utilise the space either. As you can see in the photos below, the door was in the centre of the room, dividing the space into two, with a sink on one side, and a toilet and shower squashed into the other.

We decided to make the most of the space, we would move the door down, giving us lots of space within our bedroom too.

Moving the existing plumbing and adding an external soil pipe was our next task before levelling the floor, plastering and tiling the room.

We decided to use the Laura Ashley Wicker floor tiles in light grey. The images online show a pure, cool-toned tile however they do have a slightly warm tone to them.

Next was the sink unit–the 800mm Melbourne Earl Grey from Soak (love the modern, clean lines of this piece).

A new shower, toilet, window cill, radiator, blinds, skirting boards, lighting, mirror, bin, and furnishings later, we had our new ensuite!

I love this little room so much–it's calm, bright and neutral with a little feminine touch too. The Laura Ashley tiles have just the right amount of detail, and you can't go wrong with a clean metro tile.
